The principles of biophilic design focus on how to create environments that foster a connection with nature and enhance human well-being. Here are some ideas on how we can apply these principles to interior design:

  1. Use natural materials: Integrating wood, stone, water and other natural materials into interiors can create a sense of connection to nature.

  2. Maximising natural light: Ensuring access to the maximum amount of natural light is important for biophilic design. Large windows, open floor plans, and strategically placed vents can enhance the connection to nature and provide better lighting.

  3. Integrate plants: Plants are a key element in biophilic design as they bring nature into the interior and improve air quality. Placing live plants in indoor vegetation, vertical gardens or even moss walls can create a pleasant atmosphere and improve the quality of life.

  4. Create natural looks: using colours, textures and shapes that resemble natural elements can help create a natural feel in interiors.

  5. Creating spaces to connect with nature: Integrating outdoor spaces such as patios, terraces or balconies can provide opportunities to connect with nature and outdoor spaces even when indoors.

Following these principles in interior design can contribute to creating an environment that is more pleasant to live and work in, while fostering a connection to nature and improving quality of life.
